Transforming and recycling an object by giving it a new twist is my favorite creative task. Taking an everyday item that has been all but forgotten, and breathing new life in to it with paint, paper, glass and found objects, is intriguing, fun and challenging for me. An old moniter can become a canvas, a power supply becomes a wired-up night owl, a discarded iron bench, laying on the side of the road, is obviously a table. Bowling ball? Paint it.
This computer monitor, replaced by a bigger monitor, could not be just tossed. It easily transformed into a surface inspired by Van Gogh.
My old pizza baking stone is the base for this mosaic. Tiles tossed out by Home Depot, along with found objects were arranged to capture the feeling of art and architecture, light and dark, glass and concrete, good and evil...elements of the city.
Add color, practice, focus, paper, paint, pencils
Blend in Artists in history, time, emotions, experimentation,
Mix in glue, and a sense of humor....serves enough for everyone
My favorite cup got broken one morning as I rushed around...
Computer Power Supplies take on a night owl persona...Just two girls out on the town!
Recycled this old briecase for my classroom..Finding inspiration for artwork subject matter can seem difficult...until you learn where to look for it.
Found objects such as the magnifying glass, and a hummingbird started off this for me...
Pencil, colored pencil, ink, sharpies....just keep drawing, just keep drawing

Transforming an old chair into a work of art, a bench into a personalized and custom design, or a table into a conversation piece....so many reasons I love creating functional art.
The 3-dimensional surface allowsmuch freedom, and space for visual play. Trompe l'oeil (fooling the eye) style, used on many pieces, does engage a viewer, and allows my sense of humor to come through. The top of a stool is a canvas waiting fora little fun, not just a place to sit.
These sea creatures are crafted from the seed pods of queen palm trees. The wood is strong while possessing a natural curving quality. It was this flowing motion shape, looking so much like fish, that inspired me. Each is cut and hand-painted with exterior latex and acrylic paints, and sealed with polyurethane. You may order one by specifying an approximate length, color scheme, and fish shape. Alligators are also available!
These low relief assemblages are addictive to create, incorporating found objects, textures, shapes, letters, and personalized design.

Teaching art is a most rewarding job...at times crazy, always messy, usually loud, but always creative and inspiring! All I really want is for my students to become creative visual problem solvers. By learning techniques, practicing, experimentation, focusing, and having fun....they gain confidence as artists. I try to expose them to as much visual art online, as well as videos, magazines and examples, looking at artists in history and contemporary work. Oh, and there's a reason its called "art work"....it takes WORK!
